Joan Smith…

A tribute to Joan Smith, who died peacefully on Sunday 15th October at the age of 92.  Joan was one of a family of 5, 3 brothers & 2 sisters, who lived in Hitchin Road in a terraced house, where the Co-Op now stands.  Joan went to Stopsley School where she made life long friendships with Kath Endersby & Myrtle Cox.  She attended Luton Technical School with Myrtle for shorthand and typing.

The family attended S.B.C.  Mrs Smith was a founding member of what is now the Tuesday Fellowship afternoon. Joan was our longest serving church member, she was a Sunday School Teacher and was responsible for producing the church newsletter.  She also assisted Mr Souster, the Church Treasurer with the accounts.  In her working life Joan was P.A. to Herbert Janes the builder.  The work she continued on, when he retired to Worthing, travelling 2 days a week.

Since Joan retired she was an active member of the Seniors Committee helping with setting up for the May Rally, joining in with the outings and a regular with the Seniors Holiday.

Funeral to take place in November… details to follow

Tuesday Fellowship Drivers Needed

Is anyone available to help pick up a few of our seniors on a Tuesday afternoon, give them a lift to the meeting here at SBC by 2pm and then return them home after 3:45pm, once a month? We are in real need of drivers!
